Riding high after the success of blockbuster film Rock On, actress Koel Purie believes her new hair cut has brought her luck - her performance was highly appreciated and she has many offers coming her way.

"Ever since I got this new hair cut, my life has changed completely. I have so many things in my kitty and the best part is I'm enjoying every moment of it," said Koel.

"I am not superstitious, but seriously I can feel the difference. I am a very hard working person, but it never paid off. But this time, everything is just falling in place. Things are happening now," she said.

Koel has been getting calls from her friends and fans, who can't stop raving about her performance in Rock On. "It was a male-centric movie and my role was very small. I was not expecting such an overwhelming response for this role. Yet it has been noticed and I'm really happy about it," she said.

"I have been doing off-beat characters for a while now and when this offer came in, I just grabbed it because I could relate to the movie the moment I heard the script as it is all about friendship and love, which is a universal feeling," she added.

Rock On revolves round a group of four aspiring musicians who form a rock band called Magik. It is led by singer Aditya (Farhan) and has temperamental guitarist Joe Mascarenhas (Arjun Rampal), talented keyboard player Rob (Luke Kenny) and drummer Kedar Zaveri (Purab Kohli). Koel played Devika, the love interest of Purab.

Apart from her regular Bollywood assignments, the other thing that is keeping the actress busy is her talk show on news channel Headlines Today, On the Couch with Koel.

In this show, Koel takes her red couch anywhere - be it a garden, a room, a celebrity's house - and starts a conversation with a well-known personality every episode.

"The whole idea of the show is to be different. Talking to different people in different settings and places is the USP of this show. Above all, I get to do what I love the most - travelling," she said.

Koel has been in conversation with Sachin Pilot, Amar Singh, Harman Baweja, Vidya Balan, Rakhi Sawant and many others. Among all of them, Koel had an absolute riot with item girl Rakhi Sawant who, according to the show's host, is the real TRP queen.

"Having Rakhi on my show was absolute fun. She is the real drama queen and because of this, she is the nation's favourite too. You love her or you hate her, but you cannot ignore her," Koel said.

"People love her so much that she gets maximum viewership after (Railway Minister) Lalu Prasad," she quipped.

Praising the item girl for her professionalism, Koel said: "Rakhi is so professional that she came on to the sets before me and once the camera starts rolling, you see a thorough professional on screen."

Daughter of India Today group publisher Aroon Purie, Koel has worked in off-beat movies like Everybody Says I Am Fine (2002), White Noise (2005) and Mixed Doubles (2006).

The Kajol-Shah Rukh jodi hasn't been seen together since Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001). The industry's fav jodi are committed to Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan due 2009. However, the two will be seen together before that in Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

However, Kajol is not paired with SRK in RNBDJ, she's only doing a song. It was director Aditya Chopra's idea to rope in Kajol.

The song will be shot in Mumbai. And Kajol will appear in one of the verses of a song filmed on Shah Rukh and newcomer Anushka Sharma. The setting of the song will be a Punjabi folk event, and Kajol appears seconds before the song ends. A source says, "It will be very similar to her appearance in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. All it took was a phone call from Adi for her to say yes."

Chopra's directorial debut Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge starred SRK and Kajol in lead roles, and he was looking forward to having them together in the same frame.

Of course yes! Those close to me know me for what I am and I guess even the industry too has come to realize now that regardless of some of the arty roles I have done, I don't carry that garb with me in my personal life. I am a hot, hip and a sexy chic and I am proud of that. In any case I have always worn Western outfits in real life as well. So puhleeze, don't look at me with such a shocked expression on your face. A much coy Minissha Lamba is going through a massive image makeover. In her soon-to-be-released Kidnap, she would be donning a bikini which certainly comes as a surprise to those who have been following her career in films like Yahaan, Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd, Shaurya and Bachna Ae Haseeno.

"Well, it is shocking for quite a few people but if you ask me, I am really enjoying it all", says Minissha who has seen an eventful 2008 so far, "Seriously, I felt beautiful when I donned the bikini for Kidnap. And though people do ask me how comfortable I was with the thought of wearing a bikini, let me tell you that I was more focused on getting my body into the right shape than worrying about anything else."

Talking about her decision to join the bikini bandwagon, Minissha admits, "Yes, I have joined the bikini bandwagon. After all, not many girls are doing it even today, isn't it? In any case when you see Kidnap, you would realize that the makeover isn't for the sake of it. This was meant to be a part of the character and I was duly convinced that donning a bikini was indeed an integral part of the script."

While industry and cine-goers are definitely noticing this makeover, what were the kind of reactions that she got from people close to her - read friends and family? "We are not grown up in a conservative household and together, we watch a lot of Hollywood films", discloses Minissha, "Something like a bikini is hardly a culture shock since as a family, we are quite modern in our outlook and very progressive. In any case, everyone today understands that at the end of the day, it is just a part that you are playing for a film. The buck stops there."

By wearing a bikini for Kidnap, Minissha now joins the gang of young women who have willingly agreed to get into the costume for a Sanjay Gadhvi film. After Esha Deol (Dhoom) and Bipasha Basu (Dhoom 2), she is the new bikini girl for Gadhvi.

"And I am so very proud of that", exclaims Minissha, "When Sanjay told me that I had to go through this image change in Kidnap, I was game for it. I feel it was great to explore a new side of me. Going by the reaction that I am getting from people, I guess the experiment has indeed paid off."

In Ravi Chopra's Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai, Tabu shall be playing a naughty lawyer.

The acclaimed actress has never played a completely over the top sensuous character before and is excited to play the part in this Hollywood comedy, My Cousin Vinny's Bollywood remake.

Our source informs, "Ravi Chopra managed to convince Tabu in playing a sexy character for his next, Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai. When she was first offered the part by him she had declined it.

But after a lot of deliberation, Chopra managed to get the Namesake starlet going in for the role. The role requires Tabu to expose her body. But since the film is a comedy she won't be presented in a vulgar manner."

"The same part was earlier offered to Bollywood hotties, Bipasha Basu, Mallika Sherawat and even Sushmita Sen. But they had refused the role calling it too insubstantial. But Tabu has taken up the role as a challenge of attempting something which she has never done before in Bollywood." the source adds.

Ravi Chopra tells us, "Tabu has signed my film and will be seen playing a lawyer and fights the court case opposite Govinda. It's a dashing and challenging role."

Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai is an official remake of Oscar winning Hollywood comedy, My Cousin Vinny. The original had Joe Pesci playing a bumbling middle aged lawyer fighting his first case, a murder case, to hilarious consequences.

In solving the case he is shown aided by his girlfriend (Marisa Tomei in an Oscar winning role) and forever put to test by the public prosecutor. In Chopra's film, Govinda shall be replacing Joe Pesci whereas Lara Dutta will play his girl friend's role.

For the nasty public prosecutor's part, Chopra has decided to cast a female character instead of the male in the original which shall be enacted by Tabu.

None of your family member in in films, then how come you choose this career?
You can never imagine joining films even in dreams in my family as it is a conservative Sardar family. I belong to Faridabad and got my education at Delhi. Father is in airforce, while mother is a teacher.

Naturally no one discusses going into films. Even I did not think of joining films. I choose Commerce as my stream of education keeping in view of joining some good job.

But fate had some other plans and I did turn up in films without any grooming or formal training in film acting. However, I did participate in college dramas and did many dramas with my group even after college days.

Then I started getting modelling offers. This paved my journey to a full time career in films and came to Mumbai. My family too supported me as they saw my commitment and works.

How did you struggle in Mumbai?
I got two short films with Tanuja Chandra and working with him was no less then getting trained in some academy. I learned many things with him. Then I did some adfilms.

I also learned Kathak dancing from Jayanti Mala, daughter of Sitara Devi.But I get the ral start when I was cast opposite Sharad Kapoor in Jani Dushman. People identified me from this film due to my enchanting ways and glamorous looks.

How was the journey later on?
I started getting film offers and concentrated on films. Then I got a chance to appear with Rajpal Yadav in Ladies Tailor. Cineviewers appreciated my role as Flora in the film for her innocence.

Though the film did not succeed on box office I got a foothold in Bollywood. Since then I have never looked back. Then I did get many offers from South also.

Two of my Tamil films, Idu Kadal Varun Paruvam directed by Kastoori Raja, and Mard Valav with Super Star Arjun, have been released. I also acted in two Kannad films also.

Then why were you ignored in Bollywood?
No, this is not a fact. Getting more films from South did not mean that I got away from Hindi Films. Recently I have worked in a children film, King No.One.

I am also working in Hindi film Ek.. The Power of One produced by K.Sera and Sangeet Shravan.

Ajay Devgan is in the lead role in this film. I am opposite Zakir in Ajay Chandok directed Khalbali Hai Khalbali.

I am also doing an Item dance number in Vikalp. All these three films will be released this year and then everyone will see my glamour and acting skills.

You are a Punjabi kudi, so you must also have done some Punjabi films?
Unfortunately I have not got a chance to act in Punjabi films till now. I have not given a thought to it also. I have to work in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malyalam, and Kannad films and reach the peak of acting success.

People do like fatty girls in South, but you are slim. Did it affect your career?
South is getting a change in its tastes otherwise Aishvarya Rai would not have got entry in south. People appreciate glamour everywhere and I am at ease in this.

What is your opinion about exploitation in film industry?
It all depends on you. We do get all kinds of people in this field and there are lots of gossips going on. One has to tread cautiously in this mine field.

"Producers feel that since I have taken up filmmaking as an alternate profession, I have given up acting. But, it is not so. I am still open to good offers. But, I will not like to direct myself in my own film," Pooja who is here in connection with the South Asian Film Festival (SAFF) said.

Pooja feels that she would be a much better performer since she has experience of being behind the camera.

Zakhm, which is one of her last film as an actress was screened at the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) complex in Goa on Saturday afternoon.

She said the film did not do well in terms of box office collection. "But, it was criticised in Saudi Arabia as an anti-Muslim film and in Mauritius it was called an anti-Hindu film," she said and added that the film won the National Award.

Speaking about Kajra re, she said it was the love story of a singer-rockstar from India and a girl from Pakistan.

"Himesh Reshamiya in the role of a rockstar looks believable. His transition from a playback singer-music composer to an actor has been smooth," Pooja added.

She said the heroine, a Pakistani actress Mona is from a redlight area whom Himesh meets in Dubai. Himesh's character has just experienced a tragedy where he has to give up his identity and start life all over again.

"The film primarily dwells on the theme that where there is love, there is no fear," she added.

Perizaad Zorabian, who will soon be seen in three 'interesting' movies, says she only wants to do 'meaty' roles to impress her 10-month-old daughter 'once she grows up'.

Nisha Kothari, who shot to fame with a role in Bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma's 'Sarkar', was involved in an accident of a woman near Santacruz Airport, on Tuesday morning.

Tina Zamtani, a resident of Ulhasnagar in her thirties, suffered a leg injury after Nisha's Honda City hit her while she was crossing the road. She was with her husband and they were headed to Vaishnodevi.

According to the Airport police, Salim(27), Nisha's driver was behind the wheels when the incident occured. Kothari, however, claims that she does not know how to drive a car and it was not her driver's fault as the victim suddenly came in front of the car.

Nonetheless, Kothari took the injured woman to Nanavati Hospital for the treatment and promised to bear the medical expenses.

As the outrageous singer and actress Sherlyn Chopra prepares to embark upon her first promotional tour for her new album 'Dard-e-Sherlyn', her show organisers are panicking. Starting this Saturday, September 6, the newbie will begin her tour spanning seven prominent cities of India namely Delhi, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Pune, Vizag, Hyderabad and Mumbai.

But her organisers are losing sleep over the bold and flamboyant girl wearing her trademark diamond-encrusted bikini top and golden hot pants that she has famously worn in the new superhit video of her remix album.

They have been considering stringent security measures at all her promotional events across the country. Apart from expecting trouble from unruly crowds due to the skimpy attire, the organisers also feel it is very risky for her to wear the bikini top as it is actually studded with a couple of real diamonds on the sides of the top.

Special care was taken for this diamond-studded top when the video was shot at Filmistan Studio in Mumbai. In fact, Sherlyn had employed an extra lady assistant just to keep an eye on the top whenever she left it in her vanity van in between the shots.
"But while travelling from city to city, obviously the risk will dramatically increase. So it comes as no surprise, that the organisers are worried about Sherlyn's protection,"says her publicist . "It's a delicate-cum-volatile situation with extreme potential to spark off untoward incidents. Most of the organisers feel the risk is too big. It will require tremendous care and vigilance by the security personnel – for Sherlyn as well as for the diamond top," he adds.

"To be on the safe side, Sherlyn will perform with around six to eight bouncers in the stage's vicinity, and four other plain-clothes security men, who will intermingle with the audience, to subtly tackle any troublemakers in the crowds,"

After the runaway success of her first album 'Outrageous' on T-Series, Sherlyn emerged a diva, out to make men go weak in their knees. The second album 'Dard-e-Sherlyn' is her tribute to the original dreamgirl Hema Malini and takes off from her 1976 hit song "Mujhe dard rehta hai, dil mein dard rehta hai..." from the film 'Dus Numbri' co-starring Manoj Kumar. But the "Dard-e-Sherlyn" video has already attracted 19 cuts from the Censor Board and also invited the ire of Hema Malini.

The yesteryear's actress was obviously furious and upset when in a recent interview she spoke about Sherlyn with stinging sarcasm, stating, "I don't even know why she's linking me with a hot-hot thing. So the world's worst theatre group is helping me to save the world."

Laughs Rahul, "The only thing that this theatre group can do effectively on stage is a rendition of K Asif's film Mughal-e-Azam. That's where my Salim act with Anarkali comes in. I am only fantasising about being on stage with Mallika."

Rahul has never done broad comedy before. "And I'm delighted by how good Mallika is at comedy. I'm the guy who tries to get her attention right under her husband Paresh Rawal's nose."

Your debut film Hijack just released. Are you excited, nervous, or just simply chilled out?
I think I'm feeling all of them. I'm waiting for people's reaction, what they are going to say, what people are going to talk about me, write about me, about the film. So yes there is excitement, there is anticipation, there is nervousness, there is lot of, you could say that happiness wala excitement because my film is releasing.

A lot of people feel that Hijack is inspired by the Die Hard series? Have you seen any of the Die Hard films?
I would not agree that it is a replica of Die Hard because it is not. And this film is so uniquely on Hijack that it can't be based on any other film. When you see the film, you will realize that it has its own story line. So, I would not agree that the film is replica of Die Hard.

What is your role in the film and how did you bag this role?
Let me answer the second part of your question first; I came to know that the director of the film Kunal Shivdasani was casting for the movie through his office.

I auditioned for it and ended up giving three auditions for the role. And, after that I got selected for the role, this really came as a surprise for me as there were some really good people for the audition.

As for my role in the film, I play a very high profile girl but at the same time she believes in relationships. And, I bring the romantic element to the film even though the film is out-n-out action thriller.Before entering films, what was your background like?
I'm working as an air-hostess in Air India and am still continuing to do that.

So henceforth will you stop working as a cabin crew?
No. I'm not going to stop either because I love both the professions very much. Yes, it is very obvious that I have to quit one or the other someday but I will try to pull both as long as I can. However, if my film career is doing well, then certainly I will quit my job because I always wanted to be in films.

Are you personally a fan of action films? Who according to you fits the action hero's bill in Bollywood and Hollywood?
I think Shiney might be the new action hero of India because after this movie, Shiney is actually going to be seen in a very different light. Till now, Shiney has played a role of unsuccessful man, a lover, and a gangster. But here you will see him in a completely path breaking action flick.

And the best part of it is that he has played his part with full conviction. Hence, for me Shiney fits the action hero bill perfectly.

We haven't seen much of you during the promos, so are you a surprise package in it?
I wanted to be a part of the promotions but I was shooting down South for my movies. That is the reason why I couldn't participate for the promotions. Now most of the promotions are done but whichever is left I'm doing those. Like I did Vaar Parivaar and I also attended the music release of the film.

How was the experience working with Shiney Ahuja and Esha Deol? How has been your equation with them?
Shiney's a great co-star and, I couldn't have asked for a better co-star because the best thing about him is that he makes his co-stars feel very comfortable.

He also helped me with the dialogues when I was having problem at a particular time. I think I can't thank him enough for that and my performance has surely improved to a certain extent because of him.

With Esha Deol, I didn't have any scenes and the only time, I met her was during the music release when we exchanged a few words; I think she is a very talented and sweet girl and prefer to remain quiet. Apart from this, I really don't have any idea about her.

Along with you, this is also the director Kunal Shivdasani's first film. How did you find him for his first film?
This is Kunal's first film but he is an ace ad film maker; he has made a lot of brilliant ads, so his sense of direction is perfect. And because of this he knows how to package everything in a little bit and he doesn't let anything drag.

Really, this is the best part of his film making. He is brilliant director and makes sure that his cast and crew remain very comfortable and are well taken care off.

He never lost his temper on the sets. He is very talented and I'm sure he will go to places after this movie.

Lyricist Javed Akhtar and wife Shabana Azmi are all set to make a special appearance in ‘Luck By Chance’, the film that son Farhan is producing and is daughter Zoya’s directorial debut.

Not too many details are being divulged about their gesture of affection for their children. But it is known that the couple will appear as themselves.

‘Yes, Shabana and my father are in the film. In fact everyone you know in the industry is going to be in ‘Luck By Chance’. Everyone breezes in and breezes out in different parts of the film. But ‘Luck By Chance’ is not a spoof on the film industry. A lot of the film fraternity will recognise itself in the film,’ Farhan told IANS.

He added: ‘Zoya has completed the principal photography. It’s turned out exactly the way we had imagined it. The film has me, Isha Sharvani and also Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia, though not as a pair. I do play one of the leads. But it’s a menagerie of characters and activities. The structure is totally new.’

She may not have touched heights in the film industry but Esha Deol maintains that she has no regrets about doing the movies that did not click and has never felt on cloud nine when her films have become hits. Thus, she dismisses rumours that she is desperately seeking success through her next film Hijack.
“Choosing a film is like getting married. You don’t anticipate that it will not work. I have seen a low phase but I have tasted success with Dus, No Entry, Yuva and then there was Dhoom that popularised me,” says Esha.
Being choosyHijack has Esha playing an airhostess in a flight that has been hijacked by terrorists. Her strong character meets an equally courageous Shiney Ahuja on this flight. So how was it working with the actor who was highly appreciated for his role in his latest film Life in a Metro?
Working with Shiney was wonderful as he is fun to work with and a thorough professional, she says. Apart from Hijack Esha is also working in Exchange Offer opposite Rahul Bose. Doing one film at a time seems to be a conscious decision of the new league of actors, and Esha is no exception. “I want to do one film at a time because since I joined the industry, my outlook towards cinema has changed. I am developing interest in crossover cinema and off beat films,” she says.
She also shares that her mother will soon be reviving her production house HM creations and she will be a part of some of the films made under the banner. However, papa Dharmendra does not seem to be keen on casting her in the films he produces. His soon to be released Chamku has Priyanka Chopra as the lead. “That is because he sees me as a daughter and not an actor. Even I will not want to work in his film,” she says.
Friends and...The alleged story of her friendship gone sour with Kareena Kapoor is old and well known and the actress maintains that she has no female friends in the industry. “It is difficult for two actresses to be friends. My closest friends are Zayed and Fardeen Khan. Trusting an actress in Bollywood is dangerous,” says the actress.
Last we heard, her mother was looking for a suitable boy for her. Has the search ended? “Every mother wants to see her daughter settled and happy. I will also get married eventually but fortunately or unfortunately I am single now. It is work for now,” Esha sums up.

Until recently, the world's biggest movie machine, the Indian film industry, had gained an unsavoury reputation because of suspect funding sources, back-room deals and the general lack of transparency in the movie-making process. But this notion changed after films were given 'industry' status and legitimate or 'white' funds started pouring in. Today, you have the who's who of the corporate world—such as Anil Ambani and the Mahindras—entering the business for its growth prospects.
Today, even the big-ticket Hollywood studios are interested in the Indian film industry. Sony Pictures, for example, was involved in the making of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya last year. Some private equity players have also forayed into this lucrative industry, but their investments are not project-centric, says an analyst pointing out to the recent funding of PVR Pictures by ICICI Venture and JP Morgan.
The next step in this process of corporatisation of the film industry is the entry of dedicated funds by venture capitalists (VCs) for film-making. Two such funds that plan to raise a collective corpus of over Rs 900 crore have already been announced and have started investing in some projects. Both the funds—the over Rs 700-crore Cinema Capital Venture Fund (CCVF) and the Rs 200-crore Vistaar Religare Film Fund (VRFF)—have been registered with the regulator SEBI, which they say will bring in best practices in movie production.
VC funds have the liberty of choosing various modes of investment. "VCs can either get into an agreement with the producer and invest in a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) launched for a particular film or can co-produce the film by entering into a joint venture with the filmmaker. Alternatively, the VC can pick up a stake in an existing film company the way a PE player does," explains the analyst.

Deepika Padukone was supposed to make her debut with a Priyadarshan film but she chose Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om instead. Now, three years later, the actress is making a cameo appearance in the director's much-talked about Billo Barber.

Priyadarshan gives credit to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan for bringing her to the project. Besides Deeepika, Kareena Kapoor also makes a guest appearance in the movie. "Yes, she was being seriously considered for a film called Pirates about music piracy. But the film didn't work out. I'm so glad Deepika made her debut with a film as successful as Om Shanti Om, and that too with Shah Rukh Khan," said Priyadarshan.

"Shah Rukh has asked one more heroine to join him. But Kareena and Deepika agreed because of Shah Rukh. They aren't performing item songs. They play his heroines," he added.
The director had been trying to rope in Shah Rukh for years. "I had offered him four other films. I never made those films. You can't make a film written for Shah Rukh with anyone else. Then now when he finally gave me 65 days, he said he's busy with the IPL (Indian Premier League) and I'd have to adjust dates accordingly.

"Then I narrated Billo Barber to him. He got really excited and said, 'IPL and this film happen side by side'. This film takes me back to my Viraasat. I feel I've gone back to my roots."

Billo Barber is a remake of the Malayalam film Kadha Parayumbol, which was directed by Sreenivasan. Mammootty and Sreenivasan played the lead roles in it.
"Irrfan Khan plays the title role and Shah Rukh plays a superstar called Saahil Khan. It's inspired by the mythical friendship between Lord Krishna and Sudama but done in a completely contemporary context. "It's about a village and the changes that happen in it when a superstar comes to the village. What people don't know is that there's a very strong suspense element in the film," said Priyadarshan.

Commenting upon Irrfan, the director said: "Any big star would've agreed to play the title role. But I wanted someone who looked like a real villager, a hardcore barber. Irrfan has learnt how to cut hair," said Priyadarshan.

And the other interesting aspect of Bachna Ae Haseeno is also the fact that you are the senior most and highly experienced from the lot. As a teacher, what did you learn from the new bunch of students?
They are hardly students. You know what happens. When I started off acting I had come with no experience in the films, but all these new comers are actually not new comers because they come with so much of preparation for being in films that they end up knowing more than what I've learnt in the last seven years. So they are as experienced as me and a person like Ranbir, he knows way too much for sure.

Your last film with Yash Raj productions was two years ago, Dhoom 2. So how did two years after Yash Raj manage to rope you in for this particular role? Why not any other new comer?
Well, I guess the right casting is very important in any film and when I heard the narration of this film, I just knew that Radhika is the part that I want to do and that is what they called me for. No, not really because we are similar minded people and at the end of the day you're an actor. You've come to do your job and you do it. It really helps on the contrary because when you have some kind of an equation with your co-star and you're on great talking terms and a friend, then the chemistry is better as it shows on screen, rather than working with a person you don't get along with. Age has nothing to do with it.

Aditi Govitrikar agrees that she stopped getting good film offers after her marriage

Tell Aditi Govitrikar — that that her decision to get married when she was about to make her big debut in Bollywood — was nothing less than suicidal and she surprisingly agrees with you.

“Bollywood was not very keen to have married women as heroines when I got married. It was not a very positive thing to do for a woman who had career in the industry in mind. It was professional suicide but I wanted to get married then and I don’t regret my decision,” Aditi, who is a gynaecologist by profession, says.

She admits that it never crossed her mind that her marriage could end up ruining her career.

She adds, “I wanted to act in films but it never did pass my mind that I shouldn’t get married to keep my acting career going. I became Mrs World after I got
married. My career did not stop but yes Bollywood did not happen but it’s ok. I wanted to be a doctor and I’m very happy being one.”
But she is content with what she is doing right now. Aditi is so impressed with her performance at a reality television show that she has planned to write a book on it. What’s more? She says that she is so much in love with the show that she is looking forward to more such reality television contests.

“I don’t have any reality shows in my bag to do as of now but I’m so much in love with it after my experience with all the girls that I’m looking forward to walk the same path again. Initially titled Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur, the film also features Shreyas Talpade, playing a letter-writer in a village of uneducated people.

A set on Ramoji Studios in Hyderabad was converted into a small village called Sajjanpur. When the cast reported on the sets each day, they used to greet each other thus: "Welcome to Sajjanpur".

Talpade then suggested to Benegal that he consider renaming the film Welcome To Sajjanpur; the director agreed.

The experience of working with art-house directors makes Preity Zinta feel like a changed actress.

Departing from the glamour and larger-than-life characters of Bollywood commercial films, Preity discovered the joy and challenge of portraying realistic characters in films like The Last Lear and Heaven On Earth .

In Preity’s words, it was Rituparno Ghosh (the director of ‘The Last Lear’) who first “opened doors to rooms in my subconscious mind,” the doors Preity never knew existed. MUMBAI: In an attempt to beef up its humour content, Sab is launching its new show Main Kab Saas Banoongi on 1 September.

Produced by Deepti Bhatnagar Productions, the show will air at 8 pm every Monday to Thursday.

After it repositioned itself as a 24-hour comedy channel in July, this is the channel's third offering in the genre. The other two comedy-based shows are Lo Ho Gayi Pooja Is Ghar Ki and Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah.

Director Kabir Sadanand confirms, “Yes, Tanisha has done an item song. She is a very dear friend. We have worked together and got along really well during my first film Popkorn Khao Mast Ho Jao. “This particular song is a fun number and I wanted someone to add to the fun element. Tanisha is one fun loving girl and was a perfect fit for the song.”
The song has been choreographed by Danny, Savio and Kunjan who also choreographed the salsa song in Honeymoon Travels Private Ltd. However, Tanisha who doesn’t know salsa had only one week to rehearse and get her steps right. “Yes, this is something new for me thus rehearsals were very important. I will be seen in a pink top and fitted brown pants. This is something I really enjoyed doing.”

With a prelude of a man reading Nikhial Gogol and a declaration that books are the best tourist venture, you realise that this is not the run of the mill stuff. This is my first experience with Mira Nair. The narration grows on you. Though set in the United States there is a British feel to the film.

The story is about “cross over emotions” Ashoke( Irfan Khan) marries Ashima (Tabu) and brings her from tradition Kolkotta to a flat in the U.S. The new bride has to wade through a different system. A system in fact. Cocooned in her won world she is still her self and is not easily absorbed into the new scenario.

Years, time tide hardly tells on the shell. She lives on.. mothers two children and becomes a silent spectator of their lives. The next gen kids in the US are hardly sensitive to the culture of their parents and find the indiscernible wall. Old cultural moorings and instinctive ethos call for adjustment from the couple.
The first child Gogol grows up in a western school conscious of a name not popular but insists on retaining it till many years later chooses to change it to Nikhil. There is a small story of why Ashoke names his son Gogol. He is reading The Overcoat by the Russian writer when he is a victim of a rail accident of which he is a survivor. It is on this trip that he is advised to go out of India and see the world. Thus he sees googol as the symbol of his life.

Just when everything is fine- Gogol ( Kal Penn) brings home his western girl friend Maxi (Jacinda Barret) to meet his parent. The cultural shock notwithstanding the meet is pleasant. Tragedy strikes the family in the most unexpected hour. How the family copes up with the tragedy and get life back on the rails is what the rest of the film is about.

Thankfully the film is not a comparative statement of cultures. It is their juxtapositioning. Just a week ago the audience was treated to a tongue in cheek comparison of the two worlds. This is about their coexistence. Marvellously texted the film moves very slowly. Simply because tales are told in a hurry life is experienced in a leisurely manner.

What stands out in the film is that not once is there a pointed stance on anything. It is about space and a reason in the life of every individual. Totally bereft of moral policing the film is simply about life and simply about life of simple people. Fine performances from Kal Penn as the guy in a dilemma and Irfan Khan as the father add glory to the narration.
The best thing about the film is doubtlessly Tabu. Amazing actress. She reiterates her place in the world of our cinema. Very Special. Very Very Special. She is like Daffodils in the midst of cacti. Not surprising that she is not a great favourite at the box office where the Rani s and Aishwaryas rule. When the history of our cinema is discussed she is sure to find a place of pride alongside her famous aunt. That is a major achievement. Mumbai’s Rainbow Walk on independence day went successfully. Led off by Celina Jaitley, who had a gay friend who died recently, the walk included gays, lesbians, bisexuals, hijras, transgenders, kothis, panthis and inter-sex people.

The walk began at India’s Independence monument at August Kranti Marg and was intended to symbolize that in India, gay people are still seeking their freedom from Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code. This was introduced under British rule in 1860 by Lord Macauley and has a maximum penalty of up to ten years. Ironically, of course, anti-gay legislation has long since disappeared from UK and EU law.

The march successfully traveled to Chowpatty Beach with displays of rainbow flags, banners, slogans, costumes, drag queens and other assorted exotica. “I lost a dear friend to homophobia. We should support the cause and hope that Section 377 goes,” said Celina, who played the role of a lesbian in the psycho-thriller Girlfriend.

“The antiquated British Law of Section 377 should not be around in a society as progressive as ours,” said Anand Grover of Lawyers Collective, a group challenging the law in the High Court. “I am an eternal optimist and hope that the courts will take a supportive stand on the reading down of this section.”

Reema Kagti, the director of Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. which included a sympathetic portrait of two gay men said, "The mark of a civilised society is the way it treats its minorities and it is time India allowed its lesbian and gay citizens to lead dignified and honest lives."

ACTRESS GEETA Basra, who has done two films so far, Dil Diya Hai and The Train, originally hails from Portsmouth on the south coast of England and grew up in London.

“I’m invariably asked why I chose Bollywood rather than the British film industry,” she told City Times in an exclusive interview recently in Dubai, her first visit to the city. She came here as an invited guest for the launch programme of Santorini, an exclusive Greek themed lifestyle resort on Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah.

“I opted for Bollywood because I always had a passion for Hindi films. I simply love Hindi movies.”

She actually got her first break when she was not in Bombay. She had gone back to London, leaving her photos with her manager who showed them to Aditya Datt, Director of Dil Diya Hai. “He liked the photos and called me for an audition and I was selected,” she said.

What prompted her decision to be an actor, she said, was her absolute idol and role model: Madhuri Dixit. “I’m a huge fan of Madhuri Dixit. As a child I used to love watching her movies,” she pointed out. “I think she had the complete package: beauty, talent, dancing... everything. She has been my biggest inspiration to be where I am. It’s a great privilege for me to be a part of the same industry that she has been.”

The dusky beauty had acted on stage as a child and has been dancing all her life. She also used to love singing and took up classical singing to enter in the Sa Re Ga Ma singing programme in London but later stopped. “I guess I’m just a bathroom singer now,” she joked.

The actress believes that acting is inside you. “You may sharpen your talent, brush it up, make it better but acting has to come from within you. And with each role, I’m learning more and more.”

She has done some intense love scenes in The Train with her co-star Emraan Hashmi, giving the impression that she is ready to bare all. The film itself centres around the controversial issue of an extramarital affair.

When asked whether it was a wise move on her part to do such scenes at the beginning of her career, as that would typecast her as a raunchy girl, the actress said, “I don’t think there is a danger of being typecasted. Even Madhuri Dixit did some hot scenes at the start of her career and it never harmed her.”

But she conceded that she later realised it was a mistake on her part. “I’m now going to be more selective about what scenes I shoot and what I don’t,” she said. This was apparent even during the filming of The Train when Geeta Basra and Raksha Mistry, the film’s director, traded minor punches over the issue.

In a report, Mistry alleged that Geeta was “unprofessional” on the sets of The Train in Bangkok, claiming that she went shopping on a crucial day when they had to rehearse for an important scene.

In response, Geeta Basra claimed that she was being labelled “unprofessional”

because she refused to do extra intimate scenes with her co-star Emraan. She had already shot some scenes with Emraan which were part of the original script. Apparently, she said the director wanted to add sex appeal to the film and asked her to do more of such scenes.

“So I already showed that I am not willing to go beyond a particular limit in exposure and intimate scenes,” she said.

Jannat is a 'masala' entertainer and though it doesn't quite unearth the 'betting and match fixing syndicate', as it seemed before one ventured in to watch the film, it does touch upon the peripherals without taxing audience's brains much. So what one gets to see is the way betting circuits operate, how world players get involved into match fixing, how there are countless people hands in glove with the syndicates and how it doesn't take much time to bump off a smaller player if he threatens to be a nuisance.

However, all in all, Jannat stays on to be a love story with cricket just being in the background. The way Emraan and Sonal fall in love does seem stupid to begin with (do girls still impressed by wandering men under their balconies?) but in spirit, Jannat continues to engage. In fact one forgets the silliness of Sonal falling in love with Emraan the moment the young man starts playing around with his life just in order to grab some quick cash. His sixth sense starts working for him as he graduates from ball by ball betting to dealing with cricket players with love for women, wine and watches and starts getting them all on the side of his mentor (Jawed Sheikh).

In fact, it is scenes like these, which are the most impressive part about Jannat. Emraan's first brush with betting at a local pub, his subsequent walk up on the ladder, his journey to South Africa, his first interaction with Jawed Sheikh, the match fixing that follows - all the scenes which are as per the focal point of the film give a good account of Kunal Deshmukh - the storyteller. Well shot and edited, these sequences do leave an impression. As also the climax, which is seemingly clichéd to begin with but only leaves a lump in the throat the moment it reaches its tragic finale. Wait, there is more to come. As an epilogue, the scene which followed between Sonal and her child has a trademark Mahesh Bhatt stamp to it!

The only places where one feels that the film stagnates a little is somewhere in the second half of the film where the song 'Haan Tu' comes across as an unnecessary inclusion. Though well tuned, it breaks the film's narrative. Also, in a couple of important scenes, especially the film's climax where solid histrionics were the need of the situation, Sonal's inexperience shows. However, Emraan Hashmi's very good act saves the day as he comes up with yet another impressive performance in a row after Awarapan. The young man is quietly forming a market of his own and one waits to see when the big ones would come calling for Hashmi who is quick leaving the 'Serial Kisser' tag behind!

Motwani was supposed to star opposite Pawan Kalyan in the film that is to be directed by S.J. Surya.

Kalyan's decision to enter politics and subsequent change of dates for the film shoot landed Motwani in a spot as she had already committed the new dates to other projects.

THE SCENE: Nandita (Amisha Patel) visits the apartment of Miss World, the supermodel and the movie star Kavya Krishna (Esha Deol). She comes to confront Kavya about the scandalous affair that Nandita's husband, Shekhar, has been having with Kavya. Nandita begs Kavya to stop seeing her husband because she wants her husband back; to have her family back. Nandita is almost breaking down because her world, that she has spent seven years building, is being destroyed by Kavya's relationship with her husband. Kavya locks the doors to her room because she does not have the courage to face her but Nandita continues to speak. Nandita tells Kavya that she is simply a housewife who tries to give her family happiness, while surrendering to her husband, who found it so easy to walk out of their relationship. Kavya is deeply affected and the scene ends with her swallowing a bunch of sleeping pills as Nandita leaves the apartment and sees none of this behind the closed door.

The two actresses apparently enjoyed working in Subhash Ghai’s production Paying Guests a lot.

Celina Jaitley and Riya Sen , two of the Bollywood stunners, got along well while shooting the film in Thailand, where they also forged a bond with the film’s crew of about 60 people.

So when the film’s shooting got over recently in Thailand, the two belles thought of giving gifts to each and every member of the crew – from director to spotboy.

A day before the last shoot, Celina and Riya went shopping in Thailand and bought a huge range of things like T-shirts, jeans, caps, books, and fashion trinkets. The gifts were bought keeping the recipient in mind.
